About me

About me: il Periegeta

It was 1994 when I ideally started my journey around Rome and its environs. But I would better say that I started my periegesi from the Greek word periegeomai , I take you around,  as Pausanias the Periegeta (110-140 AD) did in Ancient Greece. Since then, I have had “followers” , disciples and partecipants, and all sort of personalities, famous and not famous, but all curious in terms of knowledge, mentally and spiritually speaking. Families, individuals, students, writers and artists and furthemore… but the most moving day for me was in 2005 when in June 29 I had the plaisure to take the Nobel Prize for Peace Wangari Maatai around the Eternal city!…

In 2011 I signed an important contract with the office of Vatican gardens for a  a project of renovation of the same gardens. In 2017 I published a book on the Vatican gardens still wating to be published by an English or American publisher “Anima Persa Anima Ritrovata. Periegesi all’interno dei giardini vaticani“, (Palombi Editori 2017).

My endeless studies, masters and long experience in the Roman as well as  the Vatican museums (here is my resumé) made me an Art educator.  I published two books for children A prova di Sbadiglio. Giochiamo con il ritratto and A prova di sbadiglio giochiamo con il paesaggio (Palombi Editori, 2009 and 2010) and a book  for adults titled Intorno all’Educazione all’arte, dall’eutropia all’eutopia (Palombi Editori, 2018)

I conceived two projects on Art Education in museums: 1. A prova di sbadiglio (Creative interdiscipliary tours) for kids or families with kids and schools; and Oltre i confini: vedere (Beyond the bounderies, we can see) for adults and teenagers.

Between 2010 and 2011, the Vatican Governatorate commissioned a project to renovate the Vatican gardens and a second project to renovate the garden of the cloister of St. John in Lateran from me.

The two projects, carried out together with the director of the Vatican gardens at that time, Luciano Cecchetti, were approved by the same Governatorate in 2011.

I was also published an article on the new garden of the basilica of St. John the Lateran’cloister,  in the Vatican monthly magazine All’Ombra del Cupolone, in December 2011. https://www.periegeta.it/2019/11/the-renewed-garden-of-st-john-in-the-laterans-cloister/
